Meet the Technologies

Technologies

What technologies are helping robots operate in challenging nuclear environments? Let's find out, one technology at a time.

“Meet the Technologies” is our bi-weekly series exploring the technologies integrated and investigated within the XS-ABILITY project, developed by our partners: their capabilities and their contribution to the project. Every two weeks we introduce a new technology and its role in advancing robotic solutions for nuclear environments.

Elios 3 Untethered

Designed for close-range inspection and data collection in challenging environments.

In nuclear environments, accessing hard-to-reach areas is only part of the challenge. Flyability’s Elios 3 combines untethered operation with a modular platform for inspection, mapping and radiological sensing.

What is it?

Elios 3 is a collision-tolerant unmanned aerial platform equipped with a protective cage, onboard localisation and mapping capabilities, and a modular payload interface that supports the integration of different payloads.

What does it do in XS-ABILITY?

Elios 3 is used for visual inspection and 3D mapping of confined or inaccessible areas. Its modular payload interface enables the integration of the CEA Nanopix3 gamma camera and SMRD gamma/neutron sensor, extending the platform’s capabilities towards radiological characterisation, including dose-rate monitoring, radiological mapping and radiation source localisation.

The Elios software development kit (SDK) and development environment support future algorithm development and robotic coordination by IFE.
