On March 13, 2025, XS-ABILITY project partners gathered in Marcoule nuclear site for an important milestone: a visit to the G2 Reactor and participation in the project’s 2nd General Assembly. This event marked a significant step forward in the project’s mission to enhance nuclear safety and advance innovative decommissioning and dismantling strategies.
The visit to the G2 Reactor, a decommissioned nuclear facility, provided the teams with valuable first-hand insights into the technical challenges associated with nuclear decommissioning. By exploring the site, project partners gained a clear understanding of the challenges they face and aligned their strategies with real-world conditions. This will be essential in ensuring that the XS-ABILITY project delivers practical and high-impact results.
In addition to the site visit, the 2nd General Assembly was held, where partners reviewed the progress of key work packages and discussed the roadmap for the first year of the project. Special focus was placed on:
- WP2 “Requirements Analysis: Specifications and Safety” – ongoing efforts to ensure safety and regulatory requirements are fully understood and integrated into the project’s framework.
- WP5 “Demonstration and Use Cases” – using insights gained from the G2 Reactor visit to shape realistic test cases and demonstrations for the project’s innovative solutions.
This collaborative effort marks a crucial milestone for the XS-ABILITY project, bringing together a diverse and talented group of experts who are united by a shared goal: advancing the future of nuclear decommissioning and dismantling.
As the project progresses, the insights gained from this visit and assembly will be key in shaping cutting-edge solutions and ensuring that the project’s impact is felt across the nuclear sector for years to come.
