The XS-ABILITY project has reached another important technical milestone with the successful integration of the GAMON gamma spectrometry sensor, developed by CAEN SpA, onto the Boston Dynamics Spot quadruped robot at the Institute for Energy Technology (IFE) in Halden, Norway.
The integration has been successfully completed, and the system is now fully operational, marking a significant step forward in the development of robotic solutions for safer and more efficient nuclear decommissioning operations.
By combining advanced gamma spectrometry with autonomous robotic mobility, the project is enhancing remote inspection capabilities in environments where human intervention may be challenging or hazardous.
This achievement was made possible through the close collaboration between project partners CAEN SpA and IFE.
The successful integration represents another concrete step toward the upcoming field campaigns at the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant, followed by the final validation activities at SCK CEN (Mol, Belgium) and the project’s final demonstration at the G2 reactor at CEA Marcoule (France), scheduled for September 2027.
